SOCSTC's Treatment Foster Care Program serves children through age 18. These are young people with severe emotional and behaviorial problems who need an out-of-home placement combined with intensive treatment. The program is community-based and provides a full range of treatment services in a home-like environment. Foster homes are located throughout Jackson County, Oregon. Most youth served are from southern Oregon, though referrals are accepted from throughout the state.
Treatment
Approach
The Treatment
Foster Care Program is based on the individual needs of the youth within
the context of their therapeutic home. A multi-disciplinary treatment team
develops specific behavioral goals and interventions for each child using
the milieu of the treatment family as the therapeutic agent. The average
length of stay is 18 months to two yearswith the goal of the child's
returning home, placement in long-term foster care, or adoption.
Services
Provided
The program integrates several treatment modalities to meet the individual
needs of each child and family. These include: individual, group, and family
counseling, structured recreation, academic tutoring, and supervised academic
study time.
In addition to these components, milieu therapy is used to stabilize children and promote the development of appropriate coping skills, anger control, and conflict resolution skills, improved peer and family relationships, and reduced effects from behavioral and emotional disorders.
