Community based residential treatment for adolescent girls and boys with emotional and behavioral problems. Youth are involved in milieu therapy coordinated with individual, group and family therapy and special education. The program serves 18 youths ages 11-18 in 2 group homes.
Treatment
Approach
The Group Home
Program is based on the individual needs of the youth within the context
of the group home. The multi-disciplinary treatment team develops specific
behavioral goals and interventions for each youth using the group living
environment, school, and the community as part of the treatment process.
The average length of stay is 18 months to two yearswith the goal
of returning home, placement in long-term foster care, or emancipation.
Services
Provided
The program integrates several treatment modalities, including: individual,
group, and family counseling, structured recreation, special education,
supervised academic study time, and vocational training.
In addition to these components, milieu therapy is used to stabilize youth and promote the development of appropriate coping skills, anger control, conflict resolution skills, and to improve peer and family relationships. The specific array of services delivered to each youth is determined by an individualized planning process using a team approach that involves the youth, family members, case workers, service providers, and advocates. This process consists of a thorough assessment of the strengths and needs of the youth, identification of desired outcomes, and the services needed to achieve the identified outcomes.
